Reds march on into Europa League quarter-finals: Real Betis 0-1 Manchester United
The Reds see off another Spanish side in Europe and it's possible that we'll get drawn against Sevilla on Friday afternoon... because United's away support could do with trip to Spain, right?
Imagine it. Lunchtime tomorrow and there could be thousands of Reds booking another set of flights to and from Spain to revisit Sevilla, where they’ve just beaten Real Betis 1-0.
It was an exciting spectacle for a game that was a dead rubber. Manchester United got the job done in the first leg, but a second half strike from Marcus Rashford sealed our spot in the draw for the quarter-finals.
Manchester United’s potential quarter-final opponents (draw takes place at 12pm, check StrettyNews.com for updates throughout the day):
Sporting Lisbon, Sevilla, Feyenoord, Juventus, Bayer Leverkusen, AS Roma, and Union St. Gilloise
When asked for his preference ahead of the draw, Paul Scholes stressed that he wanted big ties, because he sees little point in playing smaller teams in the Europa League. While I see his point, and he’s more than entitled to make it, we must take into account that United have played a serious amount of games this season. Maybe drawing a side like Feyenoord or even a step or two lower, like Union St. Gilloise wouldn’t be such a bad idea?
Speaking to BT Sport after United’s 1-0 win over Real Betis, Scholes said: “I always want the big games, I love those big games at Old Trafford.
“I know it’s not quite Champions League when you are in Europa League but the history of Juventus there, what a game that could be.
“I know both teams probably aren’t at the level they used to be but they seem like they are on their way back. So Juventus for me, possibly Roma.”
