Covering: Christian Eriksen joins on a free transfer, Lisandro Martinez next, podcast episode 147, plus more... ✍🏻✈️🎙
Good morning!
Friday was a busy one on the blog. We had the win over Melbourne Victory and Manchester United announced the signing of Christian Eriksen. You might joke that the former was a long time coming, but I understand that a lot of extra work had to be done around the medicals, so it became a complex process.
The Denmark international comes as a huge boost to Erik ten Hag, who knows the midfielder well after he trained with Ajax as part of his recovery from cardiac arrest last year. He proved last season that he still has what it takes to dictate football matches in the Premier League. Of course, I want a bit of that at United.
We have long questioned the mentality at United, which proved to be problematic last season. All it took was the Champions League round-of-16 exit for the players to throw the towel in. It made for a catastrophic end to the campaign.
Eriksen’s a great bit a business - to get a player of that calibre on a free and he’s only 30!
Welcome to Eriksen! Make sure to check out the latest episode of the Strettycast for more reaction to United’s second summer signing.
Lisandro Martinez is next in line to join Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen as new signings this summer. The Argentina international has arrived in Manchester ahead of his medical. Once that is done (hopefully quicker than Eriksen), Martinez will be a United player. More on that when it’s a done deal.
